Review by hotel critic
Review of Tjärö Hotell & VandrarhemTjärö, an exquisite car-free island just a 15-minute ferry ride from the mainland, offers a unique retreat for nature enthusiasts. Our family spent three nights in July, meticulously observing the island dynamics-particularly the peacefulness that envelops the evenings after day-trippers depart. The variety of swimming spots, along with the option to explore by renting canoes or kayaks, enhances the appeal for outdoor lovers. In terms of accommodation, we opted for the STF Hotel, which was clean yet basic. Our initial room, while unfortunately located above staff quarters, resulted in some discomfort due to noise from creaky floorboards. Thankfully, the responsive front desk staff facilitated room changes, ultimately improving our stay. I found the price point somewhat mismatched for the simplicity provided. Breakfast was plentiful, catering to many, but with limited options. Lunch and dinner offerings leaned towards the mundane, though the à la carte dinner was a notable highlight. Personally, the kungfisk was a well-recommended dish. While Tjärö Hotell presents a compelling experience for outdoor adventures, guests should weigh the financial implications against offered services. Consider visiting during shoulder seasons for a quieter and likely more cost-effective stay.
